The project aims to cut carbon emissions by 1,481,100 tons, aiding decarbonization in an energy-heavy industry.

ENGIE, a leader in low-carbon energy, has partnered with Al Jouf Cement Company (AJCC) to construct a 22 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant at AJCC’s cement facility in Turaif, Saudi Arabia. This agreement aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, focusing on renewable energy, emission reductions, and sustainable practices in the industrial sector.

Utilizing ENGIE’s solar PV expertise, the plant will span over 420,000 square meters, providing efficient power to reduce Al Jouf Cement’s carbon footprint over 25 years. This initiative supports both Al Jouf Cement’s sustainability goals and Saudi Arabia’s environmental strategies.

ENGIE will handle the solar system’s development, design, construction, and operation. Al Jouf Cement will purchase the generated electricity at a fixed rate, ensuring stable energy costs and reducing reliance on traditional sources.

Pierre Cheyron, ENGIE’s Managing Director, stated, “Partnering with Al Jouf Cement in decarbonizing operations reflects our commitment to sustainable energy solutions in the GCC, in line with the Kingdom’s vision.”

Abdulkarim M Al Nuhayer, CEO of Al Jouf, added, “Our collaboration with ENGIE is a crucial step towards Saudi Vision 2030, emphasizing carbon reduction and renewable energy adoption. This solar plant enhances our energy resilience and commitment to environmental stewardship.”

By managing the project’s design and maintenance, ENGIE allows Al Jouf Cement to focus on its primary operations, benefiting from the reliability of solar PV technology. This partnership highlights ENGIE’s role in transforming the region’s energy landscape towards sustainable solutions.
