Engie, a global leader in low-carbon energy, has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Al Jouf Cement Company to power a cement facility with a 22 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Turaif, Northern Borders Province, Saudi Arabia.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Prince Faisal Bin Sultan Al Saud, entrusts Engie with the design, performance, and maintenance of the project, while Al Jouf Cement will focus on core operations, benefiting from Engie’s reliable solar technology.
This collaboration highlights Engie’s commitment to transforming the energy sector and promoting industrial sustainability through innovative renewable solutions. The project supports Saudi Vision 2030 by advancing renewable energy goals and reducing emissions.
Engie’s solar PV expertise will tailor the plant to Al Jouf Cement’s energy needs, spanning over 420,000 sq m, to provide efficient power and reduce carbon emissions over 25 years.
This initiative aligns with Al Jouf Cement’s sustainability goals and contributes to Saudi Arabia’s environmental objectives. Engie’s comprehensive solar PV approach includes developing, designing, building, owning, and operating the system to maximize efficiency.
Under the PPA, Al Jouf Cement will purchase the entire electricity output at a fixed rate, ensuring stable energy costs and reducing reliance on traditional sources.
Pierre Cheyron, Engie’s Managing Director of Energy Solutions (AMEA), emphasized the project’s role in decarbonizing operations in line with the Kingdom’s vision. Al Jouf Cement CEO Abdulkarim M Al Nuhayer expressed pride in adopting sustainable practices, highlighting the partnership as a significant step towards achieving Saudi Vision 2030 by reducing emissions and embracing renewable energy.
