Saudi Arabia is set to enhance its solar energy capabilities through a significant investment by Desert Technologies. In collaboration with Modon, the company plans to establish a major solar panel and cell manufacturing complex in Jeddah.
Desert Technologies will invest SAR 750 million to create this facility, which will be the largest of its kind in Saudi Arabia. The plant, situated on a 170,000 square meter site provided by Modon, is expected to produce up to five gigawatts (GW) of solar panels and cells annually.
This project is a crucial step towards localizing solar manufacturing and strengthening the renewable energy supply chain in Saudi Arabia. It aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, aiming to diversify its energy sources and have renewables account for about 50% of its electricity generation.
The complex will be equipped with advanced production lines capable of manufacturing two GW of solar panels and three GW of solar cells. This initiative not only supports the nation’s energy goals but also promises to create jobs, develop technical expertise, and attract further investments in the renewable sector.
Overall, this ambitious project by Desert Technologies signifies a major advancement in Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy infrastructure, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a leader in sustainable energy solutions.
