Saudi Arabia’s Al Sadawi Solar Project Unveiling

Minister announces imminent winner of 2 GW solar power project

Saudi Arabia is set to announce the winner of the 2 gigawatts (GW) Al Sadawi solar PV Independent Power Project (IPP) in the Eastern Province shortly, according to Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud.

During the FII8 event in Riyadh, the minister mentioned that the Al Sadawi project is expected to be finalized within the next couple of weeks.

The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) previously revealed two consortia shortlisted for the project. The consortium comprising Masdar, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and GD Power Development Company proposed a levelized cost of 4.84736 Halala/kWh (1.29263 US Cents/kWh). Meanwhile, the SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development and EDF Renouvelables consortium offered a levelized cost of 4.92019 Halala/kWh (1.31205 US Cents/kWh).

The project aims for completion by 2027.

Additionally, SPPC recently announced the shortlisted consortia for the fifth round of the National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP) solar power projects.
