Desert Technologies, a pioneer in renewable energy in Saudi Arabia, has announced a new partnership with the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, known as “Modon.” This collaboration aims to establish a major industrial complex in Jeddah’s third industrial city dedicated to solar panel and cell production.
The planned facility will boast an impressive 5 GW annual production capacity and represents an investment of 750 million Saudi Riyals (approximately 200 million USD). This initiative is designed to meet the growing demand for solar energy solutions within Saudi Arabia and enhance the Kingdom’s role in global non-oil export markets.
Located on a 170,000 square meter plot provided by Modon, the complex will feature advanced production lines capable of producing 2 GW of solar panels and 3 GW of solar cells annually. This development positions it as one of the largest photovoltaic production centers in the country.
CEO Khaled Sharbatly of Desert Technologies highlighted the significance of this project in advancing the sustainable energy sector. He noted that the facility will utilize cutting-edge manufacturing technologies compliant with global standards. This effort supports local market needs and boosts Saudi exports, aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to strengthen the local value chain in renewable energy and localize advanced industries.
