A new joint venture between Next Generation SCM and City Cement is set to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in cement production.
This innovative factory uses only a fraction of the fuel required by traditional methods and operates at lower temperatures, leading to reduced costs and emissions.
In Denmark, the current facility produces calcined clay, emitting just 8kg of CO2 per tonne, which marks a 99% reduction from the IEA’s average of 600kg per tonne.
Typically, one cubic metre of concrete results in 210kg of CO2, but this new process cuts emissions by 58% using calcined clay supplementary cementitious material.
The venture plans to commence production in the third quarter of 2025, aiming for 350,000 tonnes in the first year and doubling to 700,000 tonnes by the second year.
