The Saudi Geological Survey Authority is pivotal in identifying essential mineral reserves such as gold, zinc, and copper. As stated by Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Bandar Alkhorayef, the Authority’s influence is expected to grow over the next 25 years, becoming integral to the mining sector’s expansion.
Alkhorayef stressed the ongoing commitment to geological surveys and exploration, providing vital data for investors. He noted the Authority’s efforts to elevate mining as a key component of the national economy.
The remarks were made during the 25th-anniversary celebration of the Saudi Geological Survey Authority, attended by Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz and other dignitaries, under the patronage of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal.
In an interview, Alkhorayef highlighted a surge in investment interest within Saudi Arabia’s mining industry. He mentioned cooperation with government bodies to facilitate site allocation for investors and the frequent signing of new agreements to expand the sector.
The geological surveys and the Authority’s digital platform have positioned Saudi Arabia as an attractive location for mining investments, with accurate data collection attracting companies seeking to secure future resources.
Saudi Arabia has conducted extensive surveys, covering over 85% of its land using advanced techniques, significantly raising the estimated value of its mineral resources.
Alkhorayef also introduced initiatives like the General Geological Survey Program and the National Geological Data Repository, which have increased the value of untapped resources from SAR 4.9 trillion in 2016 to SAR 9.4 trillion by 2024.
The event also saw the unveiling of the Authority’s new logo, representing its geological identity and commitment to resource mapping and cultural awareness. Recognition was given to founding committee members and sponsors.
Alkhorayef acknowledged the completion of over 500 specialized projects in various earth sciences, including geological mapping, mineral exploration, and hazard monitoring. He emphasized the importance of developing human resources to sustain these achievements.
Celebrating the Authority’s 25 years, Alkhorayef praised national efforts in mineral exploration, leading to discoveries that have significantly impacted multiple sectors and boosted mining growth, particularly in minerals like phosphate, gold, and silver.
