Riyadh is swiftly emerging as a global urban center, propelled by ambitious infrastructure initiatives and a strategic emphasis on economic diversification, as outlined by the city’s mayor.
At the Cityscape Global 2024 conference, Riyadh Mayor Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf highlighted the city’s remarkable growth, stating that its infrastructure now matches the world’s most advanced urban areas.
Prince Faisal emphasized, Riyadh is building on a very solid foundation with infrastructure that rivals cities worldwide,
signifying its crucial role in Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification strategy.
The mayor noted the significant impact of government investment in the city, particularly in job creation, with employment costs in Riyadh being about 30 percent less than other regions in the Kingdom.
Key projects, especially the Riyadh Metro, are central to the city’s urban expansion. This $22.5 billion transport system, set to be fully operational soon, will link vital areas, substantially enhancing mobility.
Prince Faisal also highlighted Riyadh’s increasing capability to host major events, which are vital for establishing the city’s global identity.
He stated, I believe that hosting millions of visitors impacts every resident of Riyadh, and the way the city manages them is fascinating.
Riyadh is gearing up to host significant international events like Expo 2030 and various sports tournaments, which not only boost economic growth but also strengthen community ties.
Looking forward, Prince Faisal envisions Riyadh as a global city by 2030, offering seamless experiences from arrivals at Riyadh Air to enjoying events in Qiddiya and the green expanses of King Salman Park.
The Cityscape Global 2024 conference, running from Nov. 11-14 in Riyadh, underscores the city’s ambition to become a leading international business hub, featuring over 400 exhibitors and more than 500 speakers focused on the future of urban living.
