Riyadh’s Pledge for Industrial Green Energy Transition
At a recent leading industry expo in Frankfurt, Eng. Khalil Ibrahim bin Salamah, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Industry Affairs, emphasized the nation’s dedication to spearheading the shift to green energy within its industrial sector. This commitment aligns with the strategic objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, leveraging cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly solutions to hasten the adoption of clean energy, particularly in the chemical industries.
Bin Salamah shared these insights during a panel discussion titled “Overcoming the global challenge of transitioning towards green energy in the chemical industry,” hosted at the margins of the ACHEMA exhibition in Germany.
He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s focus on environmentally responsible industrial practices and renewable energy, stating that these initiatives support economic diversification, job creation, and the Kingdom’s ambition for carbon neutrality by the year 2060.
The Deputy Minister pointed to significant projects like “NEOM”—a development centered on renewable energy, biotechnology, and cutting-edge manufacturing—as key drivers for economic diversity and sustainability. He mentioned the Saudi Green Initiative as well, which seeks to plant 10 billion trees to diminish carbon emissions and enhance the share of renewables in the national energy framework to over 50% by 2030.
Bin Salamah also touched on strategic plans to evolve the Saudi industrial sector to resonate with Vision 2030’s objectives, emphasizing the need for localizing industries and fostering adaptable, innovative supply chains as outlined in the National Strategy for Industry.
“We aim to lead globally in industrial innovation and sustainability within Vision 2030’s framework,” he stated. “Our focus is on removing barriers for investors and offering incentives and support to incorporate state-of-the-art technologies and sustainable methodologies into the industrial sector.”
The ACHEMA 2024 exhibition, a nexus for over 3,200 industrial firms and roughly 1,000 speakers, is a hub for innovation and sustainability discussions. It spans a variety of key industrial fields, including pharmaceuticals and hydrogen, while also delving into critical themes like sustainability, digital transformation, and recent technological advancements.
