Lulu Retail has successfully completed its inaugural solar project in Saudi Arabia, located at the Riyadh Central Warehouse. This significant achievement aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and promotes the region’s clean energy initiatives.
The 502.7 kWp rooftop solar facility, developed with the Kanoo-CleanMax joint venture, is expected to produce 846 MWh of clean energy yearly. According to the Associated Press, this will reduce Lulu Group’s carbon emissions by about 382 metric tons annually, equating to planting around 9,000 trees over ten years. This project sets a precedent for sustainability in the hypermarket industry.
Shehim Mohammed, director of Lulu Hypermarkets in Saudi Arabia, expressed pride in the project, emphasizing its role in decreasing reliance on non-renewable energy. He stated that the solar installation supports Saudi Arabia’s clean energy transition and aligns with Vision 2030 objectives.
Dr. Faisal Khalid Kanoo, director of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Holding, highlighted the partnership’s importance, noting that it delivers both environmental impact and long-term business value.
