Construction of the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company’s major facility in Oxagon, northwestern Saudi Arabia, is now 80% finished, according to the company. This milestone covers significant advancements in the hydrogen production plant, wind and solar power installations, and supporting infrastructure.
NEOM Green Hydrogen Company is a partnership between ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM, the group behind Saudi Arabia’s ambitious smart city initiative. When completed by the end of 2026, the project aims to become the world’s largest green hydrogen plant, producing up to 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen each day, as reported by the company.
Current work includes installing key equipment such as wind turbines, hydrogen storage tanks, electrolysers, and other vital systems. The facility will run on a mix of solar and wind power, targeting a clean energy capacity of 4 GW by mid-2026. Green ammonia shipments, derived from the hydrogen produced, are expected to begin in 2027.
A spokesperson for NEOM Green Hydrogen Company emphasized the project’s role in advancing the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which focuses on economic diversification and leadership in clean energy. By utilizing the Kingdom’s renewable resources and international partnerships, the initiative aims to establish Saudi Arabia as a leading supplier of green hydrogen, supporting global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
