Saudi Arabia has strengthened its position within the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) by appointing a permanent representative to the organization. The Ministry of Energy confirmed that this step is intended to deepen the Kingdom’s engagement in global renewable energy efforts.
IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera received the accreditation of Eng. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Shehri as the Kingdom’s permanent representative in Abu Dhabi. This appointment formalizes Saudi Arabia’s presence in the agency and enhances its role in international clean energy dialogue.
With this representation, Saudi Arabia is set to play a more active part in IRENA’s initiatives and programs. The Kingdom will join official and technical meetings, coordinate closely with IRENA’s General Secretariat, and work with relevant national bodies to advance joint energy initiatives.
The Ministry of Energy noted that this expanded role will help showcase Saudi Arabia’s progress in renewable energy on both regional and global stages. It also supports the Kingdom’s broader strategy to increase its influence in the renewable energy sector and to advance its long-term clean energy objectives.
Overall, the move reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthening its partnerships within international energy organizations and accelerating the transition toward a more sustainable energy future.
