Saudi Arabia’s Renewable Energy Expansion

SPPC announces developers for 4,500 MW renewable projects

The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has revealed the Qualified Developers for the sixth round of renewable energy projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), overseen by the Ministry of Energy.

The total capacity for these Round 6 projects is around 4,500 MW.

Qualified Bidders for Solar PV Projects

  • Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, JERA NEX Limited
  • Alfanar Company CJSC, Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA)
  • EDF Renouvelables S.A., China Power Engineering Consulting Group International Engineering Co., Ltd.
  • Kahrabel FZE (ENGIE S.A), POSCO INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION
  • FAS ENERGY KSA LLC, Saudi Electricity Company
  • Jinko Power (HK) Company Limited
  • Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)
  • Marubeni Corporation
  • Nesma Renewable Energy
  • SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Co., Ltd.
  • Sumitomo Corporation
  • TOTALENERGIES RENEWABLES SAS

Project Details

  1. 1500 MWac Dawadmi Wind IPP in the Central province
  2. 1400 MWac Najran Solar IPP in the Southern province
  3. 600 MWac Samtah Solar PV IPP in the Central province
  4. 600 MWac Darab Solar PV IPP in the Southern province
  5. 400 MWac Sufun Solar PV IPP in the Central province

These initiatives are integral to the NREP’s goal of achieving an optimal energy mix, aiming to replace liquid fuels in Saudi Arabia’s power sector and provide 50% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
