Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has announced the prequalification of 16 developers to bid for the sixth round of solar projects under Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP).
The planned solar projects, amounting to 3,000 MW, are managed by the Ministry of Energy.
Details of the Solar Projects
The sixth round includes the following projects:
- Najran Solar IPP – 1400 MWac
- Darab Solar PV IPP – 600 MWac in the Southern Province
- Samtah Solar PV IPP – 600 MWac
- Sufun Solar PV IPP – 400 MWac in the Central Province
These initiatives underscore Saudi Arabia’s dedication to renewable energy and diversifying its energy resources.
Global and Local Bidders
The list of prequalified developers features several leading international utility firms. Notable entrants include French companies EDF Renouvelables and Total Energies, Japanese firms Marubeni, Sumitomo, and Jera, as well as South Korean entities Kepco and Korea Western Power.
Chinese companies Spic Huanghe Hydropower and Jinko Power (Hong Kong), along with Singapore’s Sembcorp Utilities, are also in the running.
Saudi companies joining the competition, either independently or in collaboration with international partners, include Nesma Renewable Energy, Al Jomaih Energy & Water, Al Gihaz Holding Company, Alfanar Company in partnership with PowerChina, and FAS Energy with the Saudi Electricity Company.
Other significant contenders are UAE’s Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and Kahrabel, the regional unit of French utility giant Engie, in consortium with Korea’s Posco International.
