The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has prequalified 16 developers for the sixth round of solar projects in Saudi Arabia, totaling 3,000 MW. These projects are part of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), overseen by the Ministry of Energy.
This round includes several significant projects: the 1400MWac Najran Solar IPP and the 600MWac Darab Solar PV IPP in the Southern Province, along with the 600MWac Samtah Solar PV IPP and 400MWac Sufun Solar PV IPP in the Central Province.
Prequalified bidders feature prominent global companies such as France’s EDF Renouvelables and Total Energies, Japan’s Marubeni, Sumitomo, and Jera, along with Korean firms Kepco and Korea Western Power. Chinese utilities Spic Huanghe Hydropower and Jinko Power, as well as Singapore’s Sembcorp Utilities, are also on the list.
Several major Saudi companies are participating, either independently or in partnerships. These include Nesma Renewable Energy, Al Jomaih Energy & Water, and Al Gihaz Holding Company, as well as Alfanar Company in collaboration with PowerChina and FAS Energy with Saudi Electricity Company.
Additional contenders include Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) from the UAE and Kahrabel, a regional unit of French utility Engie, in partnership with Korea’s Posco International.
