China Energy has launched the Shuaibah Solar Power Plant in Jeddah, establishing it as the Middle East’s largest solar facility with a capacity of 2.6 GW, according to China Energy. The plant is designed to generate over 282 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity during its projected 35-year lifespan, utilizing advanced photovoltaic technology and automated systems.
This project is a significant step toward Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aiming to lessen reliance on fossil fuels. It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 20 million tons each year, according to China Energy.
The plant results from a partnership between ACWA Power, the Water and Electricity Holding Company (Badeel), and China Energy. Its commissioning marks a major achievement in the region’s clean energy transition and demonstrates the impact of international collaboration on sustainable development.
