Sungrow, a preeminent provider of PV inverters and energy storage systems, has entered into a strategic agreement with Larsen & Toubro for the provision of 165MW PV inverters and 160MW/760MWh energy storage systems. This initiative is for the acclaimed AMAALA resort in Saudi Arabia and is a key component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, signifying a significant step in sustainable energy progression. EDF Group and Masdar are spearheading this flagship undertaking on behalf of Red Sea Global.
The AMAALA destination is poised to become the world’s second-largest off-grid energy storage project upon its projected completion in 2027. It will provide round-the-clock, emission-free green power, thus advancing Saudi Arabia’s carbon neutrality goals.
AMAALA is pivotal to Saudi Arabia’s strategic plans, destined to be powered solely by renewable energy. Once fully functional, it is expected to create over 50,000 jobs and inject more than 11 billion riyals into the nation’s GDP. Spanning 4,155 square kilometers along the Red Sea, the destination will boast 29 hotels, 3,900 rooms, 1,200 residential units, and a host of premium retail, dining, and recreational venues.
Aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the Belt and Road initiative, the AMAALA off-grid project will ensure a continuous supply of green electricity to local facilities such as desalination and wastewater treatment plants. Sungrow’s state-of-the-art solar-plus-storage solution is set to energize this landmark development, which includes constructing the largest 10MW demonstration platform in the world. Advanced simulation tools will be employed to guarantee system reliability across diverse conditions, thus enhancing power quality and stability.
The project is expected to yield an annual output of 410 million kilowatt-hours, which could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly half a million tons each year.
Mr. T Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at L&T, expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration following the successful partnership on the Neom New City project. He anticipates that Sungrow’s cutting-edge energy solutions and the innovative 10MW demonstration platform will facilitate exceptional quality and punctual completion, contributing to a sustainable water usage and a significant reduction in fossil fuel reliance for China and Saudi Arabia.
