Tanmiah Food Company, a leader in poultry and protein products, has partnered with Emerge, a collaboration between Masdar and the EDF Group, to establish a solar power plant at its Haradh facility. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s clean energy goals and reinforces Tanmiah’s commitment to sustainability.
The project involves the development of a 3 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power plant, which will provide approximately 35% of the electricity needed for Tanmiah’s agricultural processing operations. This will result in a reduction of over 3,850 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to the electricity use of more than 800 homes.
Tanmiah and Emerge Focus on Renewable Energy
Zulfiqar Hamadani, Group CEO of Tanmiah, emphasized that sustainability is central to their business strategy. He highlighted the significance of the partnership with Emerge as a milestone towards achieving their sustainability goals and contributing to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 targets concerning renewable energy.
Michel Abi Saab, GM of Emerge, praised the agriculture sector’s shift towards sustainable energy solutions. He noted that the solar-powered facility is vital for Tanmiah’s sustainability ambitions and expressed excitement about facilitating this transition with a turnkey solution that requires no upfront investment, easing installation for clients in various industries.
Supporting Saudi Arabia’s Clean Energy Vision
Tanmiah aims to become a leading global halal sustainable healthy protein provider by 2030, with renewable energy partnerships being crucial to this vision. The agreement with Emerge supports the agricultural sector’s transition to clean energy without initial costs, marking Emerge’s second decarbonization project in the GCC region.
Founded in 2021, Emerge specializes in developing solar, battery storage, and hybrid solutions for commercial and industrial clients. It currently supplies clean energy to 38 sites across the Middle East, including commercial, industrial, educational, and hospitality locations.
