Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, met with Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program and Undersecretary General of the United Nations, in Riyadh to discuss climate collaboration.
Their discussions focused on advancing the goals of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. They also reviewed Saudi Arabia’s climate strategies, including the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, as well as efforts to promote renewable energy and reduce emissions through the Circular Carbon Economy framework.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy and UNEP to cooperate on the Regional Cooperation for Emissions Reduction Initiative. According to the Saudi Gazette, this agreement aims to help MENA countries reach climate targets by encouraging clean energy solutions and developing supportive policies.

All these efforts are aimed at improving resource efficiency and cutting carbon emissions across the region.
