According to the Associated Press, BYD Energy Storage and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) have signed an agreement to construct the world’s largest grid-scale battery storage project, with a total capacity of 12.5GWh. Combined with an earlier 2.6GWh project, their partnership now reaches a record 15.1GWh. This initiative is a key part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims for renewables to generate half of the country’s electricity by the end of the decade.
The new battery storage installations will be distributed across five locations and fully integrated into Saudi Arabia’s national grid. BYD will supply its latest MC Cube-T ESS systems, featuring advanced Cell-to-System (CTS) technology, which improves efficiency and grid resilience. These systems are designed to balance supply and demand, ensuring reliable power as more renewable sources come online.
With 17 years of experience, BYD has delivered over 75GWh of battery storage to more than 350 projects in 110 countries, according to the Associated Press. The company’s technology-driven approach supports a full range of services from research and development to manufacturing and customer support.
