The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) and the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently held a high-level workshop in Riyadh focused on advancing EU-Saudi energy cooperation.
The gathering brought together senior business leaders, officials, and energy specialists from both regions to address critical issues such as energy security, robust supply chains, and the worldwide shift toward cleaner energy sources.
Fahad Alajlan, President of KAPSARC, opened the event by highlighting the Center’s commitment to fostering cross-regional dialogue based on solid data. He pointed to KAPSARC’s expanding collaboration with European organizations, referencing recent international activities.
His Excellency Christophe Farnaud, EU Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman, emphasized the value of practical partnerships in navigating today’s dynamic energy sector, stressing the mutual benefits of closer ties.
Ditte Juul-Jørgensen, Director-General for Energy at the European Commission, delivered the keynote address, describing the EU-Saudi energy relationship as vital for creating a resilient and sustainable future. She underscored how the strengths of both regions can jointly support global energy stability.
A panel featuring representatives from KAPSARC, Électricité de France (EDF), and ACWA Power discussed opportunities for deeper cooperation in areas like renewable energy, hydrogen, critical minerals, and innovative technologies. Panelists agreed that the EU and Saudi Arabia are well-placed to accelerate the global energy transition together.
This workshop is part of a broader effort to strengthen EU-KSA dialogue and develop lasting solutions for the evolving energy landscape through shared knowledge and investment.
