Solar power companies worldwide are convening in Riyadh to explore new prospects in Saudi Arabia’s journey to net zero at the Solar & Storage Live KSA exhibition.
NEOM Green Hydrogen Co. is a prominent participant in the event. CEO Wesam Al-Ghamdi expressed enthusiasm about engaging with industry peers and highlighted the excitement surrounding their project, which aims to be fully operational by the end of 2026.
The event underscored the significant initiatives propelling Saudi Arabia and the MENA region towards net zero, with both private and government sectors playing crucial roles.
Solar power is becoming a key player in sustainable energy as the world shifts to renewables. Al-Ghamdi explained that NEOM Green Hydrogen Co. collaborates with Sungrow for solar panel production, benefitting from NEOM’s ideal solar conditions. Their solar garden will house 5.6 million panels, generating up to 2.2 GW of energy.
This infrastructure, along with a wind farm, will enable the production of up to 600 tonnes of green hydrogen daily by late 2026.
Advancements in photovoltaic technology have significantly reduced costs, making solar power accessible and viable for both developed and developing nations.
China is a major player in solar power, heavily investing in infrastructure for economic and environmental benefits. BSL BATT, a Chinese firm, produces battery storage systems for solar power and seeks to expand its presence in Saudi Arabia, according to EMEA sales manager Russel Tong.
Battery storage is vital for solar energy viability, allowing energy to be released at night, ensuring a continuous power supply. The synergy of solar power and storage fosters environmental sustainability and economic growth, exemplified by Saudi Arabia’s expanding solar industry.
As Saudi Arabia aims for 130GW of renewable energy by 2030, the growth in solar power capacity is creating economic opportunities.
