Airbus SE has entered into an agreement to purchase raw materials, mainly titanium, valued at $666 million (2.5 billion Riyals) from Saudi Arabia, according to the Associated Press. This move is part of a broader deal involving the kingdom’s national airline, Saudia, which includes an order for 10 A330neo aircraft and options for 10 more.
The agreement comes as global aerospace companies face challenges securing titanium due to sanctions related to the conflict in Ukraine, which have disrupted supply chains and increased costs. Russia, a major titanium supplier, has become less accessible, prompting manufacturers like Airbus to seek new sources.
This partnership supports Saudi Arabia’s strategy to become a major aviation and tourism center, with significant investments in new aircraft, airports, and infrastructure. The recent order also highlights renewed interest in the A330neo, as airlines seek efficient, readily available long-haul jets amid a recovery in international travel.
