National Environmental Recycling Co. (Tadweeer) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with China’s Chery Automobile Co. to explore the creation of an aluminium plant and smelter in the Kingdom, according to a company statement.
This planned facility aims to support both local and regional automotive supply chains. Chery Automobile Co., based in China, manages several automotive brands, including Chery, Exeed, Jetour, Omoda, and Jaecoo, offering a range of sedans, SUVs, and new energy vehicles.
Over the next six months, Tadweeer and Chery will jointly conduct technical and financial feasibility studies, after which they will present recommendations and a partnership framework. Wen Song Ying, President of Chery, emphasized that the proposed plant could significantly strengthen the automotive value chain and deliver operational and sustainability benefits in the Kingdom and nearby markets.
Nasser AlDube, Tadweeer’s Managing Director, noted that the project would largely utilize materials from the recycling of electronic and electrical waste and metals, enhancing local content and ensuring reliable supply.
This collaboration marks a potential step forward in developing sustainable automotive industry infrastructure in the region.
