Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, in partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, has launched a new multi-modal transport testing facility on the KAUST campus in Thuwal, according to a KAUST press release.
Spanning 1.56 square kilometers along the Red Sea coast, this future mobility sandbox
is designed as a controlled setting for developing and testing advanced transport technologies. The facility supports air, land, and sea transport, enabling trials of autonomous vehicles, EVTOL aircraft, logistics drones, and maritime innovations.
KAUST anticipates that the center will draw multinational corporations, government bodies, and startups, fostering collaboration on safer, more efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions.
This initiative aims to position Saudi Arabia as a hub for next-generation transport research and innovation.
