Saudi Arabia and Qatar are moving ahead with plans for an electric high-speed rail line linking Riyadh and Doha, a project expected to transform cross-border travel in the Gulf.
According to the original report, the line will stretch about 785 kilometers and connect both capitals with their main gateways, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Hamad International Airport in Doha. The service is projected to begin operating around 2031, offering a journey time of roughly two hours.
Qatar’s government expects the route could handle more than 10 million passengers a year, according to the original report, potentially shifting travelers away from short-haul flights and road trips. If powered by clean energy, the project is also seen as a way to cut emissions and support regional decarbonization efforts.
