Amidst a growing partnership, Saudi Arabia and Romania have recently formalized their commitment to bolster logistics services through a mutual agreement. The memorandum of understanding, finalized by the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh Al-Jasser, and his Romanian counterpart, Sorin Grindeanu, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications, aims to introduce advanced operational methodologies in the logistics domain.
The step aligns with Saudi Arabia’s transformative efforts in logistics, powered by strategic initiatives like Vision 2030 and the National Industrial Strategy. It supports the Kingdom’s objective to rank among the world’s top ten logistics service providers.
Trade figures from the Observatory of Economic Complexity highlight the existing economic exchange, with Saudi exports to Romania at $15.1 million and Romanian exports to the Kingdom at $410 million in 2022.
The new pact will facilitate the exchange of experiences, support the advancement of logistic practices, and ensure the alignment of policies and regulations between the nations. Furthermore, it emphasizes collaboration in logistics governance and the licensing of related services and activities.
During his official visit to Romania, Al-Jasser toured Bucharest International Airport, where he reviewed its comprehensive passenger, cargo, and air carrier services, in the company of Saudi Ambassador to Romania, Mohammed Abdul Ghani Khayat.
He engaged with officials from the Romanian Air Transport, TAROM, discussing the operational capabilities and fleet size of the national airline.
This collaborative move in logistics follows previous bilateral agreements, notably in the defense sector established in June 2022, which spanned various domains including training, technology exchange, communications, medical services, and more.
