Saudi Arabia’s Vision for Logistics Transformation
RIYADH — The Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, has unveiled ambitious plans under the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics, initiated by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2021. This strategy aims to channel over SR1 trillion into the sector by 2030, with SR200 billion already invested.
Speaking at the inaugural Global Logistics Forum in Riyadh, Al-Jasser highlighted Saudi Arabia’s significant investment in transport and logistics, which has propelled the nation 17 places up in the World Bank’s “Logistics Performance Index” and 14 places in the IATA’s “Global Connectivity Index.”
Al-Jasser emphasized the importance of infrastructure investments, streamlined customs, and innovation in boosting logistics and the national economy. He stressed the role of strategic government initiatives in crafting a resilient global supply chain through cooperation and innovation.
Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a key player in global trade routes, supported by Vision 2030. The Kingdom is reviving historical trade paths like the Incense and Spice Road and the Silk Road maritime passage. Major projects, such as the King Salman International Airport and modernization of railways and ports, are pivotal to this vision, aiming to establish Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub.
Al-Jasser underscored the necessity of securing supply chains amidst global disruptions, noting that Saudi Arabia’s strategic location allows access to over 40% of the global GDP within six hours. The Kingdom is enhancing logistics services, facilitating global connectivity, and fostering economic growth.
The minister highlighted the forum as a platform to tackle logistical challenges and promote a sustainable future. He also mentioned the Saudi Green Initiative’s success in sustainability, such as removing one million trucks from roads by shifting to rail transport, reducing carbon emissions.
The Global Logistics Forum, under the patronage of King Salman, aims to bring together logistics experts and leaders over three days to collaborate and shape the future of the sector.
