Riyadh is preparing to host the inaugural Saudi Rail Conference and Exhibition on November 20-21. This event, supported by Saleh Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), will highlight the latest advancements in the railway sector.
The conference aims to gather insights from both local and international experts, emphasizing the future of the railway industry. Minister Al-Jasser noted that this initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader transformation in transportation and logistics, with a particular focus on railways.
He acknowledged the significant progress made thanks to the support of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Al-Jasser stressed that railways are crucial for the nation’s economic and social growth, enhancing trade, tourism, and mobility while promoting environmental sustainability by decreasing daily car and truck trips.
Strategic Vision for Saudi Railways
The conference will feature discussions on innovative solutions in the railway sector, with participation from over 200 speakers from around the world. Additionally, more than 200 exhibitors will facilitate networking and knowledge sharing among industry stakeholders.
Dr. Bashar AlMalik, CEO of SAR, emphasized that hosting this event underscores Saudi Arabia’s leadership in transport and logistics, establishing the Kingdom as a global hub for railway operations. This aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy under Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to localize advanced railway technologies.
Expanding the Saudi Rail Network
Saudi Arabia’s railway network now includes three major intercity lines: the North Railway, East Railway, and the Haramain High-Speed Railway, inaugurated by the King in 2018. Urban lines like the Mashaer Train, Riyadh Metro, and the King Abdulaziz International Airport Railway in Jeddah are integral to the nation’s transportation framework.
Spanning over 5,500 kilometers, the network is central to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aiming to develop a modern, interconnected rail system.
