RIYADH — The National Strategy for Transport and Logistics, unveiled by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in 2021, aims to invest over SR1 trillion by 2030. So far, SR200 billion has been allocated, as stated by Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser.
At the inaugural Global Logistics Forum in Riyadh, Al-Jasser highlighted Saudi Arabia’s significant investments in transport and logistics. This has propelled the nation up by 17 places on the World Bank’s “Logistics Performance Index” and 14 places on IATA’s “Global Connectivity Index.”
Emphasizing the impact of infrastructure investment, streamlined customs, and innovation, Al-Jasser noted these elements are vital for the logistics sector’s growth and the national economy’s prosperity. Strategic government initiatives are reshaping logistics, fostering a more connected and resilient global supply chain through collaboration and innovation.
Saudi Arabia is strategically positioned at the intersection of major global trade routes, including the historic Incense and Spice Road and the Silk Road maritime passage. Vision 2030 aims to transform the Kingdom into a global logistics hub, supported by projects like the King Salman International Airport, railway modernization, and port development.
Al-Jasser stressed the importance of securing the supply chain amidst current global disruptions. Saudi Arabia’s central location allows access to over 40% of the global GDP within six hours, reinforcing its role in global connectivity.
The Global Logistics Forum, under the patronage of King Salman, offers a platform for industry leaders to tackle sector challenges and build a sustainable future. Al-Jasser highlighted the role of public-private partnerships and the Saudi Green Initiative, which saw the removal of a million trucks from roads last year, shifting transportation to rail to cut carbon emissions.
This three-day event, organized by the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, concludes on Monday and seeks to drive collaboration among logistics experts and leaders to shape the sector’s future.
