In anticipation of the Global Logistics Forum (GLF) in Riyadh, scheduled for October 12-14, 2024, the Ministry prepares to host over 100 prominent speakers. The event, held under the patronage of King Salman, aims to address key industry challenges and explore new opportunities for international collaboration.
Saudi Arabia’s Strategic Location
Historically a central trade route, Saudi Arabia’s strategic positioning between Asia, Africa, and Europe is being leveraged to enhance its logistics capabilities. Assistant Minister Ahmed S. Alhassan emphasized the impact of Saudi Vision 2030 in developing a thriving logistics sector, establishing the Kingdom as a beacon in global trade.
Key objectives under this vision include developing logistics hubs, improving trade connectivity, and enhancing business facilitation. These efforts are reflected in the 2024 Agility Emerging Markets Logistics Index, which ranks Saudi Arabia sixth in International Opportunities and highlights its advancements in business fundamentals and digital readiness.
Significant Achievements and Investments
Saudi Arabia’s logistics sector has seen remarkable growth, with the nation climbing 17 spots in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index. The National Transport and Logistics Strategy has spurred rapid investment and development, making Saudi Arabia the 15th largest handler of shipping containers globally, according to the 2024 Lloyd’s List report.
Investments totaling 4.5 billion SAR have been funneled into upgrading ports, such as King Abdullah Port, which is leading in green operations with significant reductions in carbon emissions. In aviation, substantial investments include a record order of 105 Airbus aircraft by Saudia Group, alongside enhancements to airport infrastructure to boost global connectivity.
The logistics sector is experiencing a surge in new business registrations, increasing by 76% in Q2 2024, reflecting widespread interest and commitment to the sector’s growth. This enthusiasm underscores Saudi Arabia’s dedication to shaping the future of global logistics.
