South Korea and Saudi Arabia are deepening their partnership by expanding collaboration into advanced sectors like shipbuilding, automotive technology, and artificial intelligence, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. During the recent Korea-Saudi Vision 2030 Committee meeting in Seoul, both countries introduced 11 new joint projects and reviewed progress on 46 ongoing initiatives.
Key new efforts include co-developing technology to lower carbon emissions in shipbuilding, advancing hybrid and engine technologies for cars, and fostering digital transformation and AI-driven innovation. The two nations also plan to work together in entertainment fields such as film, e-sports, and tourism.
- Naver, a leading Korean internet company, will implement AI solutions for smart city development in major Saudi cities including Makkah, Madinah, and Jeddah.
- HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Saudi Aramco aim to finish building the Middle East’s largest shipyard in Saudi Arabia by year-end.
- Hyundai Motor and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund are collaborating on a new car manufacturing facility in King Abdullah Economic City.
Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan emphasized that South Korea will maintain ongoing communication with Saudi Arabia to ensure these projects succeed and to further expand cooperation in promising sectors like AI and cultural industries.
