Saudi Arabia’s ambitious linear city project, THE LINE, will soon benefit from a new ready-mix concrete facility worth SR700 million ($186.7 million). This initiative is part of NEOM’s collaboration with Asas Al-Mohileb to produce sustainable concrete primarily for the smart city’s construction, which will house 9 million residents within a 34 sq. km area.
The factory, designed as a multi-plant facility, aims to produce over 20,000 cubic meters of green concrete daily. Set to commence operations in November, it plans to achieve peak production by 2025, creating over 500 local jobs and boosting regional economic growth.
THE LINE stretches 170 km from NEOM’s mountains to the Red Sea and features an innovative mirrored structure 500 meters above sea level, yet only 200 meters wide. This design reflects NEOM’s goal to revolutionize urban living.
NEOM CEO, Nadhmi Al-Nasr, highlighted that the development of these plants showcases rapid progress and the strength of Saudi Arabia’s construction industry, emphasizing the importance of local partnerships in delivering such transformative projects.
As a pivotal part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the $500 billion NEOM project seeks to diversify the economy with a sustainable, tech-driven region in the northwest. Key focuses include renewable energy, smart cities like THE LINE, and cutting-edge industries, attracting global investors and fostering innovation in biotech, robotics, and mobility sectors.
Sulaiman Al-Mohileb, CEO of Al-Mohileb, stated that the collaboration underscores a commitment to economic growth by leveraging advanced technologies and innovative construction solutions, aligning with Vision 2030’s objectives to enhance the manufacturing sector and drive national development.
The new concrete facility will incorporate carbon capture and utilization technologies alongside other energy-efficient measures, with most of its output supporting THE LINE‘s construction. Already, nearly 1,000 of the planned 30,000 foundation piles have been completed, highlighting the facility’s crucial role as the project progresses.
