Saudi Arabia’s builders joinery and wood carpentry market is experiencing notable growth, with projections from P&S Intelligence indicating it will reach USD 1,333.4 million by 2030, up from USD 984.2 million in 2024. This expansion, at a compound annual growth rate of 5.2%, is largely fueled by a booming construction sector and government initiatives such as the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program and support from the Saudi Export Development Authority.

Demand for wooden elements in both residential and commercial projects is rising, with eco-friendly materials and custom wood products gaining popularity. Plywood leads the market, expected to account for 35% of usage in 2024 due to its strength and versatility, while medium-density fibreboard (MDF) holds a 5.8% share. Engineered wood is seeing the fastest growth, driven by its use in premium construction and furniture.

The Al-Riyadh province stands out as the largest and fastest-growing region, thanks to rapid urbanization and major development projects under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Technological advancements are improving product quality and manufacturing efficiency, with innovations like laminated veneer lumber and enhanced plywood meeting the demand for durable, attractive materials.

The market remains fragmented, featuring both local and international companies. Leading players are focusing on local manufacturing and sustainable practices, often partnering with construction firms for large-scale supply contracts. Government-led projects, including those under the National Housing Program, are creating substantial opportunities for joinery and carpentry businesses, especially as smart city and sustainable infrastructure projects expand.

Strict environmental regulations are shaping the industry, encouraging sustainable timber sourcing and reducing deforestation. However, challenges such as fluctuating wood prices, supply chain issues, and competition from alternative materials persist. New regulations and penalties for illegal deforestation are also prompting a shift toward eco-friendly practices.

Looking ahead, the ongoing growth of Saudi Arabia’s construction sector, bolstered by Vision 2030, is expected to sustain strong demand for wood joinery and carpentry products. Investment in sustainable materials and technology will likely further strengthen the market’s future.
