Saudi Arabia’s automotive industry is rapidly evolving, with a strong focus on skills development to achieve the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 for a globally competitive mobility sector. The Automechanika Academy, part of Automechanika Riyadh 2025, emphasized the importance of training the next generation in electric vehicles, smart mobility, and artificial intelligence, especially as over 63% of the population is under 30, according to a 2022 census.
At the conference, industry leaders discussed how digitalization and advanced technologies are reshaping workforce development. Mr. Lawrie Martin, Regional Business Development Director at GP Strategies Corporation, highlighted the growing use of AI in automotive training, noting its benefits for personalized learning but stressing that hands-on skills and problem-solving remain essential.
Mr. Martin also pointed out that successful adoption of electric and connected vehicles will require specialized training in areas such as high-voltage systems, battery diagnostics, and advanced driver-assistance systems. He suggested that Saudi Arabia can become a global leader by investing in advanced training centers and fostering partnerships with international automotive companies.
Bilal Al Barmawi, CEO and Founder of 1st Arabia, underscored the role of skills development in realizing Vision 2030, stating that bridging the gap between current capabilities and future needs is crucial for the country’s progress.
Automechanika Riyadh 2025 marks its largest event yet, featuring over 450 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and attracting 19,000 visitors.
